Asanda Madyibi Clothing is a clothing retail and manufacturing company that was established in 2007. We specialise in quality handcrafted bespoke ladies wear, inspired by traditional African tribal fashions and contemporary trends. While striving to create cultural pride, we experiment with traditional crafts (mainly beading, fabric manipulation and leather work) to create embellished garments that are contemporary African. This fusion results in garments that are deemed "hot" by satisfied clients, i.e. sexy Minnie Dlamini at the PSL awards. Asanda Madyibi Clothing has dressed Unathi Msengana (Idol SA judge) for 3 seasons, 2011 to 2013. In October 2012 we showcased a collection in Washington D.C. for the Launch of the Kora Music Awards.
The company founder and designer, Asanda Madyibi, obtained a Fashion Design Diploma from PE Technikon, which is now called Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Her early career began with designer, Sonwabile Ndamase, creating a broad range of Afrocentric traditional regalia - from corporate uniforms to occasional wear for politicians. As a creative and dynamic designer, Asanda Madyibi's three-year tenure as head designer at Sun Goddess helped the brand evolve - from their traditional A-line skirts and bustier to a luxury brand with a more diverse woman's wear. In recognition of her innovative work she was nominated in the 2008 Stars of Mzansi Awards. Her innovative take on contemporary African wear lead her to open Asanda Madyibi Clothing to create garments that are truly African, modern and luxurious.
The company strives to create sustainable employment and currently employs 5 fulltime employees, 3 tailors, 1 beader and 1 admin assistant.
